Share your ETA

Use Share ETA from an active navigation to let your friends know where you are and when you'll get to your destination.

Share your ETA

The ETA screen offers a shortcut to share your drive with any friend or contact. Once you start a navigation, an ETA pop-up appears. Tap a friends photo or touch the Add more icon  to get a full list of friends and contacts with whom you can share your drive and ETA.

To share your ETA during a navigation:
  1. Tap the menu icon.
  2. Tap Share ETA icon .
  3. Tap on friends to add them and tap Send notification.
    • Friends who are also Wazers are listed first, your remaining contacts appear alphabetically.
    • The friend(s) you choose will appear as suggested friends the next time you drive to this location.
  4. Click on Send and you're done!

Tap the more sending options icon (bottom left of the share screen) to choose other sharing methods, including text message, WhatsApp, email and copy link to clipboard (saves a link to your route on your device to paste anywhere you wish).

Adding more friends to your shared drive
  1. Tap on the ETA tab.
  2. Tap the add icon .

Alternatively, you can click the share icon  and then Add more friends.

Ending a shared drive session

To end a Share drive session:
  1. Tap the ETA tab.
  2. Tap on the share icon .
  3. Tap on Stop sharing.

Who's viewing my drive?

Only friends who you have chosen to share your ETA with are able to see your drive.

Once your friend views the drive you've shared, the share icon  will appear in your ETA tab. Clicking on it will expand the tab to offer more information about your shared drive and the option to add more people to view your drive.

How your friends see your ETA

Fellow Wazers either receive a message in their device's notification center, or see the active share icon  on their Waze map. They can tap there to View Drive and then tap Drive there to navigate to your shared location with Waze.

Contacts who don’t use Waze receive a message with a link to view your location via web/mobile browser.

Adding and removing friends

Adding Friends

Add friends from your Facebook account or your phone’s contact list.
  • Open Waze, go to Menu > My Waze > My Friends.
  • If it's your first time, you'll be asked to enable access to your contact list, tap Continue.

Removing friends
  • Waze friendships are always a two way street. While you can not block someone from requesting you as a friend, you must accept the request for the user to see your activity.

To remove a friend
  • Go to Main Menu > My Waze > My Friends > Select User > Remove Friend (in red). This action automatically removes you from their list, as well.

Find friends/Providing your phone number

If you provide Waze with your phone number during sign up:
  • Waze will compare this phone number with phone numbers which are stored in the Contact Books of other Waze users who have given Waze access [see steps below].
  • for phone numbers that match, Waze will include your name, as provided during sign up, to that user as a “system suggested” friend.
  • that user can then choose to send you a “friend request”.
  • if you approve the friend request, you will appear in each other’s friends list you can then each choose to “share drives”, location and ETA with the other.

If you also provide Waze with access to your Contact Book:
  • each time you open the application, Waze will compare the phone numbers in your contact book with phone numbers provided by Waze users during sign up [see steps above].
  • for phone numbers that match, Waze will periodically provide you with a list of “system suggested” friends [i.e. Wazers you may know].
  • note that “system suggested” friends are a selected number of users that use Waze and have provided their phone number to Waze [see steps above] though these users may not necessarily have your number in their Contact Book (i.e. mutual inclusion in contact book is not a requirement).
  • you may also manually select friends from your Contact Book.
  • once you manually select a friend or want to connect with a “system suggested” friend you can ask Waze to send a “friend request” to these users.
this “friend request” will include your name, as provided during sign up.
  • potential friends may then choose to approve or to reject the friend request.
  • if the request is approved, you will appear in each other’s friends list.
  • you can then each choose to “share drives”, location and ETA with the other.

You can disable access to your Contact Book as follows:

in Android:
  • Settings -> accounts -> remove Waze account.
  • Settings -> accounts -> uncheck the sync contact flag under Waze account; or

in iOS:
  • Settings -> Privacy -> Contacts and turn off access to the Contact book.

Waze is the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation app. Using your smart phone, you can plan trips, find gas stations, share your destination and even your location. Imagine your going to a car show, or on a cruise with your club but you are not all traveling together. You can use Waze to find, or keep track of each other along the way.
